If you have a NAS or Plex server, it also has Gigabit Ethernet, so you could stream from that well enough. But it does have USB 3.0, so you can leverage that pretty well. The next question is what "retro games" are you planing on playing? Are you planning to stream from your gaming machine to the Pi, or are you planning on loading up an emulator for an old console?įor movies, Kodi is a great option if you want to play content from local storage, and no, the Pi 4 doesn't have a Type-C connector for Data, it only powers off of a Type-C. There were some bigger changes to the hardware on the Pi 4, so it could be a matter of waiting for Valve to update the app to be more stable on the Pi 4, but having not experienced it, I would say YMMV.
As several have mentioned, there are plenty of options, and the Steam Link app has worked pretty well for me, though I have the dedicated Steam Link hardware as well, so I generally use that.
So I haven't used the Pi 4, but I have used all previous versions.
